Little Big Planet 3 has a lot going for it – including another magnificently crafted soundtrack. Background music perfectly sets ambience and tone, adds to the playfulness of gameplay.
Levels take place in abstract renditions of ‘50s monster movie sets and ballet performances, marionette theaters and workshops, all with that familiar LittleBigPlanet overlay of an artsy design magazine and a killer soundtrack.
Add in a perfectly selected soundtrack and there are levels in Adventure mode that will have your face looking a little too much like a Sony press image for your liking. An early level set in space is so well scored that it buries the needle on the music-induced giddiness meter.
LittleBigPlanet 3 delivers everything fans of the series want, and will captivate new-comers to the game. It has one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to in a game – ranging from recognisable artists through to atmospheric tracks that suit the environments you’re in
The voice acting is great, with not a misstep in sight. Indeed a special nod needs to go to Tara Strong, who plays a pitch perfect role, too. In fact, the audio design is wonderful, full stop. Glorious 50s rock plays while you bounce through a level that looks like an Ed’s Easy Diner or Hard Rock Cafe, all while you are guided by a character called Marlon Random (Nolan North); an actor with a huge quiff. It’s glorious. Gorgeous looking and great sounding.
The music and voice acting is where things truly shine. The characters you interact with have personality and flair. They bring to life a story that could have suffered enormously from the lack of voice work and characterization. For me personally though, the winner here has got to be the musical scores of each level. They are unique in their own right and draw you in with familiarity and appropriate musicality. Music / Sound FX / Voice Acting – This is the best yet in the series.
These levels are true works of art, with a wonderfully realized sense of style – and great music.
The soundtrack’s the real star of the show, though, somehow seamlessly fusing 50s pop, disco, and rock – an extraordinary mismatch that ends up working as a cohesive whole.
The music in the series has always been excellent and LittleBigPlanet 3 upholds that tradition well. Everything works in terms of setting the mood and giving the levels just the right atmosphere. Watching the end credits and seeing all the different musicians involved gave me a real appreciation for how much effort goes into the audio side of the game and clearly, this is one of the highlights.
The licensed, instantly recognizable music tracks are a delight, though. All tunes fit the levels’ themes and action perfectly.
The music is as on point as ever and is at your disposal, with a library of hand-selected hits that spans decades, along with a tailored orchestral soundtrack from series veteran Paul Thomson. The voice acting is droll and melodramatic in endearing ways…
The soundtrack and the audio is easily the best in the franchise in my opinion and is in fact my soundtrack of the year… Perfection!
The soundtrack is utterly delightful, complementing the action at practically all times. Great soundtrack!
The soundtrack is excellent. Each track feels perfectly designed for the level it appears in, and is the best soundtrack since the original.
The soundtrack is the best in the series.
Outstanding Music!
The quirky soundtrack you’ve come to expect from the series returns…a soundtrack packed with character.
Marvelous soundtrack!
Brilliant Music!
